It’s release day — “Scattered Light” is out! I started work on this record around the 2016 election and ended up finishing it in quarantine earlier this year. Along the way there were pauses and restarts and demos galore. The songs were written all over the place, both physically (from Japan to Germany to Vermont to my apartment in Chicago) and mentally (from hope to despair and back again). It’s been a wild ride, on both global and personal scales, and this record is basically a snapshot of me staying up all night trying to figure it out.
.
I can’t say thanks enough to the people who helped make it happen: Kay Petersen (for mixing and collaborating and the Hamburg sessions in 2018), Jurik Maretzki (for mastering and taking everything the final mile), Liza Ohm (for lending her voice to “Caroline”), Michi and Flora at Pakt (for dreaming up the visual component to “One Match Fire”), Paige Duché (for concocting the visual side of “Caroline”), my brother Nick and my dad Noah (for being creative sounding boards), Robert Helbig and Grant Box (for laying plans and getting it out there), Rike (for putting up with all the late nights), and Felix Willikonsky (for absolutely everything). Thanks also to everyone who’s organized a show, put me up for the night when I’m far from home, and/or played a show or tour with me over the past few years (digital hugs to Garrett Klahn, Karl Larsson, The Lion and the Wolf, Bob Nanna, Emperor X, Ducking Punches, Arms and Hearts, Zeki Min, and everyone else).
I’m really excited to have this album out in the world.
❤️
